THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND

On October 3rd the Devil's structure, the Hell in the Cell will once again descend over the squared circle and claim more victims when the WWE Superstars do battle to settle old scores and fingers crossed, create new ones. Although if you getting your hopes up of something spectacular, then let's take a look at the card for Hell in a Cell 2010, and see why we shouldn't get too excited.

John Cena vs Wade Barett

WWE might as well have put a big banner up on every T.V show stating: 'Hell in a Cell is going to built around this match!' because we all know it is. It might not be the Main Event, although there's a decent chance of that too, but this is the match that will show how serious WWE are about putting over the new guys.
As the leader (for now) of Nexus, Barrett's time should be at HITC. He should go over Cena, clean if possible, to show that Nexus and more importantly Barrett aren't just another load of upstars who will never make it in the big league. WWE and Cena messed up at SummerSlam, but this is the chance to put it right again. This is the chance to show that Cena isn't all selfish and that his limited star making ability actually broadens out a little. The stipluation: if Cena looses he must join the Nexus! If Cena wins, then the Nexus must disband.
The worst outcome for the match would be a Cena win! If Nexus disband this close into their run then it'll go to prove that WWE don't care about its main event future or its new stars. In one swift three count, Barrett could be the next big thing, if WWE put him over Cena. However this is WWE and the notoriously selfish John Cena, we're talking about. The man who thought it would impove Nexus if he beat them at SummerSlam and made them look stupid on every Raw he possibly could. So let's not get out hopes up.
Fingers crossed for a Nexus victory - as their 'N' is in every PPV poster up until Survivor Series then hopes are high WWE will see sense and shock the world. Although, this is Vince McMahon we're talking about, the man who thought it would be a great idea to expose his daughter's first pregnancy and say he was the father. Just don't get your hopes up.

Triple Threat Match
WWE United States Championship
Daniel Bryan (c) vs The Miz vs John Morrison

Plain and simple, Daniel Bryan or the Miz will stand tall after the bell has rung for the last time. John Morrison has been treated so badly in the past year that there's no chance of him walking out of Hell in a Cell with the U.S Championship. And WWE trying to push him into the U.S Title scene without any proper build up makes him look like a third wheel. The fued is between the Miz and Daniel Bryan, Morrison has been stuck in there because WWE want his face on Pay Per View. A Morrison win would make no sense, build no story and generally would give a sense of befuddlement to the watching audience.
Now the Mix has been a rock for WWE this past year. A dependable worker, an ever improving wrestler and Mr. Money in the Bank. By the end of this year or the middle of the next, the Miz will be WWE Champion. Now if that means he's stuck in an exciting feud with Bryan till then, then all the better. Bryan is a good, solid worker and the Miz needs to look strong if he's about to enter the road to the WWE Championship. WWE can't expect the Miz to lose every match for two months and then be taken seriously as WWE Champion.
My prediction is the Miz. To look storng he needsa longer run with the U.S Championship, possibly loosing it at Wrestlemania and then cashing in the Money in the Bank contract at Wrestlemania would make him look one of the strongest wrestlers on the card. Please see sense WWE and put the strap back on the Miz!

Unified Divas Championship
Michelle McCool (c) vs Natalya

This match can't be anything more than filler on a card which has so much at stake for the future of the company. As matches go, the outcome of this won't affect where WWE go tomorrow or in the future. Niether McCool or Natalya are big stars thanks to WWE's inabilty to get it's Womens division over. It'll likely play out to silence and indifference to the crowd. So plain and simple, as the wife of the Undertaker (the biggest authority in the locker room), Michell McCool will leave Hell in a Cell with the Divas Championship.

Hell in a Cell Match
World Heavywieght Championship
Kane (c) vs The Undertaker w/Paul Bearer

Kane's run as World Heavyweight Champion has been better than most thought it would be. His last run in 1998 was a twenty four hour farce and his run as ECW Champion wasn't much better. Thought with better challengers and a rock solid feud behind him, Kane has excelled as the man on the blue brand.
Undertaker returned to action after a storyline beatdown by a mystery man left him a vegetative state for months. And yes, as I predicted months ago, it was Kane behind the attack. Undertaker returned at SummerSlam, but in a neat twist, he didn't get the upper hand on Kane. It was the big red machine that surprised the Undertaker with a chokeslam. Enter Paul Bearer. Now, I wish WWE would get its history straight. because in 2004 at the Great American Bash, the Undertaker buried Paul Bearer alive in a concrete crypt, never to return. Yet 6 years later, he's back from the dead. Amazing how WWE history works isn't it?
Anyway with plans in the making for the Undertaker's next Wrestlemania moment (names include Sheamus, John Cena and Kane), and also plans for the fued between Undertaker and Kane to reach until Survivor Series in November (a Buried Alive Match has been heard in the hallowed halls of WWE), then look for a Kane victory here. For the simple reason, Kane has looked unbeatable in recent months and as Champion he's much more effective than as challenger. If Kane looses the title to Undertaker at Hell in a Cell, then the feud will take a turn for the worst. There'd be no reason for Kane to keep wrestling his storyline brother. Be it by way of cheating or even the old tried and tested Paul Bearer swerve on the Undertaker (again), Kane will leave Hell in a Cell as Champion.
Don't doubt that the Undertaker will defeat Kane for the World Heavyweight Championship, somewhere down the line - it's the only sensible outcome for a feud of this magnitude. I just can't see it being on this night. After all, the Undertaker has never had to fight this hard for a Championship, and I'm generally interested where this will go next.

Hell in a Cell Match
WWE Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs Sheamus

Now I'm torn. You see, I'm Randy Orton's biggest fan, yet I know for the future of WWE to go foward, Sheamus has to win the Championship back. Ok, Orton could carry the gold until Wrestlemania and then drop it to Sheamus or the Miz in a career making victory for the new breed. But a Sheamus title win would set up a Sheamus/Undertaker fued, or even the impending Sheamus vs Triple H feud, when 'The Game' returns soon. If Triple H wants the gold back then Sheamus will leave with the gold. If he's for once not being selfish, then Orton will leave Champion.
For once, I generally don't know who will leave the Cell with the win. I'd like to see Orton win of course. But Sheamus has been an unstoppable force so far (except Night of Champions), and is undoubtedly the man, with the Miz to carry WWE foward into the promise land. Of course there is another outcome that would shock everyone and that's if the Miz won the match instead. If the Miz was to cash in the contract then maybe WWE could build Wrestlemania around him. Although it would be a risk, as Miz isn't ready just yet (give it two months), it would be a brave move in the long run, especially if he was to face Undertaker at Wrestlemania.
Either way, then this is the second most important match on the card for the future of WWE. Of course, it wouldn't matter if Sheamus lost because the feud would be prolonged, but then we know how bored we all get of the same match month after month, week after week. I'm hoping for an Orton win, but this one could go either way. And there's not many feuds you can say that about today.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2010 could be the defining event of the year if WWE sees the sense of its SummerSlam mistakes. Don't hold out too much hope of course as anything could change in the blink of an eye if Vince decides he thinks he knows what we should be watching - that's happened before. Either way, the Cell will claim more victims. Let's just hope they're not the wrong ones.

"Hell begins on the day God grants us a clear vision of all that we might have achieved, of all the gifts which we have wasted, of that we might have done which we did not do."

    Happy times and places...
